Loughton Village was originally two villages, Loughton and Little Loughton, dating back to the time of the Domesday Book. The centre of the village is positioned around the Church and the Green, and is within a Conservation Area. The new development in Loughton has been mainly confined to the edges of the original village. There are three schools in Loughton: Loughton Manor First School, Loughton Middle School and The Grove (an independent Junior and Nursery School). Older children are served by Denbigh School in neighbouring Shenley Church End. Other public amenities located within the Village include two public houses within two minutes walk, and a sports and social club nearby with an equestrian centre. Local shopping facilities are provided by a small local store in London Road, and by more extensive facilities in neighbouring Shenley Church End. As part of this development there is also a leisure centre and swimming pool and a further public house/hotel/restaurant, The Shenley Inn. |
